God adores new beginnings and fresh starts, and He has wonderful plans for our lives! I hope you’re as excited as I am to find out what He has in store for you, and that you’ll make it your number one priority to get closer to Him than you’ve ever been before.
Did you know that prayer and Bible study are two of the most effective ways to develop a close, personal relationship with God? I’ve been talking to God and studying the Bible for over 40 years, and it’s completely changed my life! Through the power of His Word, God has changed my perspectives and attitudes, as well as healed and restored my soul.
Even now, I am awestruck by all of the advantages we have as a result of our relationship with Jesus and the truths we can discover in His Word.
The Word of God Is an incredible, life–changing journey!
My life was a shambles when I began my journey with God. I grew up in an abusive household. I was angry, insecure, and emotionally unstable, and I had no idea how to gain the peace and joy that God’s Word promises.
As a result, it comes as no surprise to me that many Christians today are dealing with similar issues. Discouragement, hopelessness, fear, insecurity, and a variety of other self-defeating attitudes keep believers from experiencing the amazing life that God has planned for them.
The good news is the word of God and there is still hope for anyone who will put their trust in God and follow His lead! Through a personal relationship with Jesus and His Word, He provides us with everything we require.
The Holy Spirit comes to live in you when you give your heart to Christ (see John 14:16-17). According to John 16:7 (AMP), He is our… Counselor, Strengthener, and Standby (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor). And, according to John 16:13, “when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth…”
These two verses demonstrate that we are never truly alone. God has given us the Holy Spirit as our Helper and Guide in understanding His Word.
Adhere to God’s Road Map.
The Bible—Word—is God’s our life’s instruction manual or road map. It contains wisdom, encouragement, comfort, and the ability to change one’s life. And if there isn’t a specific answer to a specific situation or problem, you’ll find life principles that will lead you to it.
As an example…
…Be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect, says Romans 12:2. Meditating (repeating in your mind) on Scripture renews your mind to know God’s ways and prove what is good and acceptable in His sight.
- According to 2 Corinthians 1:3, God is… the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. God promises to be with you and comfort you when you are grieving or in pain.
- Philippians 4:6–7 encourages us by saying, Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. And in Christ Jesus, the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds. We don’t have to be burdened by anxious, worried, or fearful thoughts.
- When you don’t know what to do, Proverbs 3:5–6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
Recognize him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight. You can be confident that God will guide you in every aspect of your life.
Bible study is extremely beneficial! And there are many more advantages we can enjoy besides those listed here. We just need to put in the effort to learn them and apply them in our daily lives.
Consistency in Bible study and prayer is essential for progress in your relationship with God. If you struggle with motivation or discipline in this area (as many people do), I encourage you to look into the study plans we have available, such as the 3030 Challenge, to help you make this a daily habit.
God adores you, and He has wonderful plans for you. Make a firm decision to draw closer to Him every day, and then enjoy the ride!
